The Lion’s Roar Chapter was given during the 90-day winter retreat, based on the Five Teachings and Ten Schools of the Avatamsaka (Flower Ornament) tradition (five teachings – ten schools: six Hinayana, four Mahayana). Each school differs in its approach to realization, but all point to the same reality. It distinguishes between two truths: conventional truth (birth–death, being–nonbeing are only relative; like clouds arising from vapor and then “dying” to become rain) and ultimate truth (no birth, no death, the absolute). Schools such as the Vibhajyavāda, Nominalism (nāma-mātra), or Sarvāstivāda emphasize different aspects, but all aim toward liberation through the Four Noble Truths.

True home is not a physical place but the “bakery” of the present moment: every morning we have 24 fresh hours to enjoy the wonders (birds singing, flowers blooming…) if we know how to smile and be grateful, following the gatha “Waking up this morning, I see the blue sky…”. Walking meditation for our parents is an expression of interbeing – I am my mother, my mother is me – practicing impermanence and filial piety with every step, transforming the deluded mind into the true mind.
