The Practice of Mahayana
The details of this talk took place at Phap Van Temple, Upper Hamlet, where Thich Nhat Hanh lectured on the study of the Mahayana Abhidharma. He emphasized that when the mind transcends to the realm of non-possession, all thoughts of non-perception and non-non-perception will dissolve, with only the Alaya consciousness as the refuge. He lectured on the three realms of existence: the realm of desire, the realm of form, and the formless realm. He explained that the realm of form is lighter than the realm of desire, the formless realm has no material substance, and the realm of non-perception is the highest. He also spoke about the concepts of perception and non-perception, emphasizing that sometimes having no perception can be healthier. He explained that the Alaya consciousness contains all impressions and experiences, playing an important role in existence after death. He stressed that to attain Nirvana, one must rely on Nirvana and the transcendent mind. He also lectured on building the monastic community and the importance of the Sangha community, emphasizing that each moment of practice supports the building of this community. He concluded that the light of Buddha Amitabha has the ability to illuminate all directions and never extinguishes, and each practitioner has the potential to shine like the Buddha.
