New Hamlet
Having completed their dining hall renovation and new library building, the New Hamlet sisters will be completing a new monastic residence in 2026. In 2027, they plan to renovate an existing building for Sister Chân Không and her caretaking team. In the coming years, New Hamlet would like to build a large meditation hall for 800 people.

All gifts made to the renovations of Upper Hamlet and Lower Hamlet through December 31 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $500,000 (€437,000) — making as much as $1 million available so that we can remain open to all who seek refuge here.

A living architecture
Developed in close collaboration between monastics, architects, local artisans, and ecological designers, Plum Village's new architecture brings together design sensibility, environmental consideration, passive climate strategies, local materials, and traditional craft.
This approach can be recognised in the smallest details, from the flow between buildings to the way light enters a room. As Thầy said during earlier renovations, "the rubble doesn't leave the site." Materials are reused and transformed as part of the living history of the community.
The result is a living architecture shaped by collective wisdom, one that supports the retreat experience while offering a wider invitation to imagine how homes, schools, workplaces, and communities might be designed to cultivate greater connection, belonging, and harmony with the living world.

Lionel arrived in 2014 seeking a different path. For six years he has led Upper Hamlet's projects, a bridge between the building trades and the monastery.
"Take care of yourself, take care of others, take care of the Earth."
For structural engineer Léa, the process begins with listening to the monastics, to daily life, and to the landscape.
"The earth has a great memory."
The Pralong family has fired clay on a hillside four kilometres away since 1874, five generations on the same land.
"For years we've been planting the seeds of all this. And now it's flowering."
For years, Dorothée has helped steward these projects, working closely with the monastic community.
When we care for the Earth, we care for one another
As part of our renewal projects, we are planting food forests and orchards, restoring woodland, and adding more than a thousand new trees to build a more resilient, abundant ecosystem.
We are redesigning our water systems to work with natural cycles and unpredictable rainfall, and shaping the land to support biodiversity, provide shade, and adapt to a changing climate.
The forests, ponds, gardens, and walking paths are part of the life of the community. The landscape itself takes part in the practice. When we restore the land, we restore our relationship with the world around us.
