Embracing the Buddha Within: Mindfulness, Compassion, and the Path to Liberation
Thầy shares how we can connect with the qualities of the Buddha within ourselves: our freshness, presence, stability, peace and freedom. We can cultivate these qualities and offer them as a gift of love to the world. Thầy gives a teaching on how we can practice the Four Noble Truths in the light of the Four Kinds of Nutriments. We look deeply to identify how we are feeding our ill-being, and by doing so we can see the path to well-being. To identify the source of ill-being is the key to liberation.
Thầy ends with the teaching of the Buddha on True Love and the practice of danapāramitā (giving) and prajñāpāramitā (understanding). True love encompasses four elements: maitrī (capacity to offer happiness), karuṇā (capacity to alleviate suffering), muditā (joy), and upekṣā (space, freedom).
This is the fourth talk in a series of five given during the Pain, Love and Happiness retreat, in the year 1997. Thầy offered this talk at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in the United States.
