Regensburg 6 (or 4)

Thich Nhat Hanh · November 5, 1998 · Regensburg, Germany

This talk details eating mindfully, following the Buddha’s example, with awareness during walking, breathing, and serving food. Eating slowly, we practice mindfulness in every bite with joy, stopping our thoughts to connect deeply with the food and community, focusing on the food and the Sangha. Eating happily, free from worries, is our practice. Formal meals in Buddhist practice can bring joy and mindfulness, eating in silence, following the five contemplations, and reciting gathas like “I have arrived, I am home,” to stay present and peaceful. Sharing this mindful meal with others can deepen our connection and bring a sense of divine presence, transforming the act of eating into a spiritual experience.
