A New Translation of the Heart Sutra with Commentaries
Perhaps Thich Nhat Hanh’s most enduring legacy may be his extraordinary contribution to the Buddhist canon. He has offered new translations, modern commentaries, and radical revisions to both ancient sutras and the Buddhist monastic code, making them relevant to the challenges of our times. His English translation of the Heart Sutra (one of Mahayana Buddhism’s most cherished texts) has for many decades been the most authoritative version. In 2014, he took his translation of the Heart Sutra one step further, clarifying key passages and rewriting the translation to make it less of a mantra and more of a practice – a practice of insight and concentration on interbeing that can bring anyone to “the other shore.”
