Community Work

Join us for a joyful and hands-on week of mindful living as we come together to care for the hamlet and nurture Plum Village as a spiritual refuge. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the monastic community and fellow practitioners while engaging in practical, physical activities.

This retreat is perfect for those who enjoy an active, lighthearted program that combines mindfulness, teamwork, and working with your hands. Together, we will adapt to the rhythms of nature, embracing tasks both under the sun and in the rain.

Activities may include:

  • Spring cleaning the hamlet
  • Repainting and decorating spaces
  • Tending to the flower gardens
  • Building benches and weatherproofing exterior woodwork
  • Clearing branches and other maintenance tasks
  • Preparing for the “Great Ordination Ceremony Week”

Do you have specific skills such as woodworking, gardening, or decorating? Or would you simply like to offer your presence and enthusiasm? All are welcome, whether skilled or new to these tasks!

Throughout the week, our work will be guided by mindfulness and togetherness. The program is lighter than usual, but will still include:

  • Daily morning meditations and optional evening meditations
  • Short Dharma teachings
  • Small-group sharing circles facilitated by monastics
  • A lazy day to rest and rejuvenate (a cherished Plum Village tradition)

Let’s come together to build, clean, garden, and create with joy and a collective energy of mindfulness. Whether you’re an experienced practitioner or completely new, this week offers a beautiful way to deepen your practice and experience Plum Village in a practical way.

Please feel free to bring your own gloves, coat, and waterproof outdoor shoes/boots!
