Join us for two weeks of mindful living and hands-on work as we come together to care for the hamlet and strengthen Plum Village as a spiritual refuge. This retreat is an opportunity to connect deeply with the monastic community and fellow practitioners while engaging in meaningful service to sustain the monastery.
Perfect for those who enjoy an active and practical program, this retreat combines mindfulness, teamwork, and the satisfaction of working with your hands. Together, we will adapt to the rhythms of nature, embracing tasks with a spirit of joy and dedication.
Activities may include:
- Renovating and repairing structures
- Painting
- Carpentry, wood construction
- Reorganizing/Renewing: community spaces
- Landscaping
- Cooking
Do you have specific skills such as carpentry, construction, landscaping, or enjoy cooking? Or would you simply be happy to offer your presence to any task that is needed? All are welcome!
Throughout the week, our work will be guided by mindfulness and siblinghood. The program is lighter than usual but will still include:
Daily morning meditations and evening meditations
Short Dharma teachings to inspire and ground our practice
Small-group sharing circles facilitated by monastics
A lazy day to rest and rejuvenate (a cherished Plum Village tradition)
Let’s come together to offer our presence and care to the beloved Plum Village Root Temple. Whether you’re an experienced practitioner or completely new, these 2 week offers a unique way to deepen your practice and experience Plum Village in a practical, hands-on way.
What to bring
- Work gloves
- Sturdy outdoor shoes or boots
- Weather-appropriate clothing (coat, rain gear, etc.)
We look forward to cultivating joy, mindfulness, and siblinghood together.
