Volunteering – Wake Up 2025

We would like to invite experienced practitioners in the Plum Village tradition to support us as volunteers during this years Wake Up Retreat for young people between 18 and 35.

Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community on a deeper level, to serve alongside talented and like-minded friends, to work together closely with monastics and to learn the art of going as a river.

Volunteers benefit from a few days of head-start to settle in, plenty of time to get to know each other, and help to prepare the monastery to receive guests. The Wake Up retreat would not be possible without the precious support of volunteers in many areas, such as guiding mindful service, translation, taking care of the tea house, cooking, first aid, transportation, helping the guest team, etc. Many who come for the first time to Plum Village will benefit from your experience and ability to welcome them.

On departure day of our guests, volunteers help care for and tidy up our monastery grounds. Afterwards, there is time to celebrate, share our insights, and reflect on the time spend together.

Volunteers will be able to attend most of the normal retreat schedule, but are expected to join with a heart of service, and be ready to support where help is needed.

Feedback from last years volunteers:

Being a volunteer during the Wake-Up Retreat was one of my most joyous experiences. To be of service and part of the community while sharing so much joy with fellow volunteers and retreatants was unimaginably nourishing.

Oliver, Germany

The Wakeup retreat gives me hope in humanity. It is so powerful and transformative to be with young people that deeply care about social issues and like me are also searching a way to live a meagningful and ethical life while working on self-love and compassion.

Richi, Brazil

Thank you all for your kindness, patience, compassion and hard work to create this opportunity for people.
