About Thay Thay returns to Vietnam after health check-ups in Thailand

January 4, 2020

Dear Beloved Community,

The sangha is very happy to announce that today, January 4th, Thay will fly back to Vietnam, and return to Từ Hiếu Root Temple in Huế, after spending five weeks in Thailand for medical check-ups. Thay is doing well, has recovered his appetite, and remains strong in spirit.

While at Thai Plum Village, near Khao Yai National Park, Thay enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the practice center, and was able to attend the ordination ceremony for fourteen new young monks and nuns in his community. Thay is looking forward to seeing the completed renovation works of the new Shrine Hall at Từ Hiếu Temple, and returns to his homeland in time for the Lunar New Year celebrations later this month.

Wishing the sangha a peaceful and harmonious New Year,

The monks & nuns of Plum Village

  • Dearest Thay,

I want to thank you for your gifts that you have given to me through your books and dharma talks on YouTube. I have found much peace from your presence. I think about your health and hope that you are feeling well today.
Your teachings help me connect and heal my inner child.
I feel more compassion for myself and those around me.
Your teachings of compassion and Love has made it possible for me to reconcile and lovingly communicate with my wife. In mindfulness I find myself. Your teachings have brought me to a place that I didn’t know existed. I will continue to use the belly breathing exercises when things seem overwhelming.
One day I would like to come and visit you. I pray for you and the rest of the monastics.

May Peace and Love surround you
    Zach Phillips

  • With great appreciation and gratitude. You opening the door so I could find the here and the now.
    With love your are Thay.
    Thank you

  • I walked with you 4 times in and around LA, California, 2005 promoting peace instead of war (US invasion of Iraq) meditation walk around macArthur Park Los Angeles California, A very busy and noisy place usually, We filled the streets, traffic stopped and silence occurred, very powerful meditation, a walk in Santa Monica down to 3rd St., Promenade to the pier, then one in Pasadena, also at a small monastery and we had lunch together in the backyard. I am blessed to have met you🙏🏽

  • I’m so glad to know that Thay is still doing well. I read a book of his gatha every night and it’s helpful. Thank you for being with us and guiding us in this challenging time.

  • I am glad that Thay is getting better and better. Especially in these times of crisis in the world, which has taken on another dimension through a virus (in which people, especially in the wealthy countries, develop such haughtiness, because they simply can’t believe that you can’t control everything and because they become impatient, don’t worry about the value of the individual person for very long, but rather keep an eye on the development of the economy, etc., etc., etc.) I had to think especially of him, his attitude, his beautiful thoughts …

  • Thank you, Thay! I feel blessed that you are there with us. Wish could see you once and touch your feet. Happy to see the monks and the Sangha taking care of you most lovingly. Praying for your health!!

  • Since 2003 I have learned to love this Master teacher on You Tube (I never really knew much about him before You Tube, even though I am of his generation during Vietnam War, etc and lived in America). In my mind, I find his return to his beloved home in Vietnam completed his circle of life as to his purpose for coming to America by planting seeds of mindfulness practice (1966) (in May 2020 during Covid-19, mindfulness meditation is flourishing and blooming everywhere on You Tube). I can only imagine him being joyful with that unexpected opportunity to finally go home to his beloved place in Vietnam – mission accomplished. When I listen to Namo Valokiteshvara on You Tube it is my favorite meditation mindfulness practice. May God bless us all and give us peace from our suffering.

  • Many blessings to Thay and his worldwide sanga & community. I was so blessed to have been in the presence of Thay and community in Ireland and France. Peace, goodwill & blessings
