Dharma Arising
Brother Pháp Khởi, also known as Brother Dharma Arising, is a Dharma teacher in the Plum Village tradition. Born in Vietnam and raised in the US, he worked as a chemical engineer with Intel in Arizona before ordaining as a monk in 2007 in the “Papaya family”. He received full bhikshu ordination on January 14, 2010 and became a Dharma teacher in 2016.
Br. Phap Khoi finds joy in hiking in the mountains, practicing mindful walking in nature, and tending to plants and injured animals. His deep aspiration is to inspire everyone to love and cherish each other and our precious Mother Earth. He is a dedicated advocate for mindful hiking retreats, having led such retreats along the Appalachian Trails, Himalayas, among other places.
Proudly calling himself a “lazy monk,” Br. Phap Khoi’s unique version of laziness involves rising at 4 a.m. to enjoy coffee, immerse himself in Thay’s teachings, contemplate the Dharma, and enjoy more coffee. This quiet period of solitude provides him with the space and patience to seamlessly navigate the myriad sangha adventures that unfold throughout the day.
Within the community, Br. Phap Khoi is treasured as a seasoned vegan chef and a tech specialist. His invaluable contributions extend to being an essential figure behind all of Plum Village’s online offerings.
