All of us encounter despair and loneliness at some time in our lives. How do we weather these emotions when they threaten to overwhelm us?

Our teacher Thich Nhat Hanh provides us with some important keys on the way out of these difficult emotions while giving concrete practices. This section concludes with some meditations to help children manage their emotions.

On handling strong emotions and despair
Thich Nhat Hanh teaches on how to weather our strong emotions. He also teaches some mindfulness practices on breathing to help us embrace our despair.

On loneliness
Thich Nhat Hanh speaks about loneliness and its roots and how to reconnect with ourselves and others.

Guided Meditations and Relaxations

When we are in the midst of strong emotions, doing a guided meditation or a deep relaxation to calm our body and mind can be very helpful. You can also access these on the Plum Village app.

Mindfulness can often help us with difficult emotions, but it might not always be suitable for every situation and it might be difficult to start a mindfulness practice in the midst of experiencing extremely strong emotions. In certain situations you might want to seek profession support from a mental health practitioner.
